OUGD601 - Practical - Luxury packaging - Process

Luxury packaging

To create ‘luxury’ element of the brand, boxes will be created for packaging. This is insired by other luxury items like watches, glasses and shoes. The box gives the products a feel of greater value, as well as greater customer satisfaction.

This box was created at a larger scale than the normal boxes would be as It had to be larger than a3 to fit the ‘branding guidelines’ publication inside.

This box was finished with black foiling, using texiflock as glue and a heat press on 160 degrees for 20 seconds.

A a3 sheet of card will also be placed on top of the products, also with black foiling, to further the luxury feel to the product.

The only small problem that occurred during this process was that the box was to large for the heat press, so the box had to be taken apart in order for it to fit. After this, the box was then glued back together using ‘super glue’.

Step 1.
Screen emulsion

Step 2.
Collect box, texiflock, black foiling and print out my negatives.

Step 3.
Make my positives.

Step 4.
Text the print method on card.

Step 5.
Use the textflock as the glue.

Step 6.
Wait for the glue to dry.

Step 7.
When dry, add black foiling and place in heat press for 20 seconds on 160 degrees.

Step 8.
Peal the black foiling off using the corners.

FINAL TEST FINISH

This method turned out success full. After a few test prints the final box will be ready to be printed.

Pealed foiling.

PROBLEM!!

The box is too big for the heat press. Therefore I am either going to use an iron instead of the heat press, or take the box apart so it is able to fit.

Step 9.
Test the iron printing method.

Thoughts?
I am not happy with the outcome of this foiling as all the foiling did not stick to the card. Therefore I will find a way to make the box fit into the heat press.

All final samples.

One seat will be used to be placed other the products in the box, to add a luxury feel to the product, as the consumer would have to reveal the product from underneath the printed sheet.

Step 10.
Take the box apart in order to in to be able to fit in the heat press.

Step 11.
Apply texiflock to the box.

NOTE!!

The box is textured. It is really important to press down hard on the screen, so all the texiflock is applied onto the box.

Step 12.
Apply black foiling and heat press for 20 seconds at 160 degrees.
