Essay response - Rationale.
From the research I conducted which provided the foundations of my essay I
established the understanding that, New media caused 21st century men’s
magazines to be filled with non-content adverts to fund the magazines.
From the essay, the conclusion was made that there was an abundance of
non-context advertising. However it is clear that the advertising is the main
source of funding for the production of the magazine. Therefore it would be
illogical to propose the removal of advertisements as a whole.
As a regular consumer of men’s fashion magazines, I feel that magazines have
now got too many non-context adverts, which is removing the attention of the
reader from the main content, which the magazine provides. For this reason, I
am proposing an idea, which will reach a medium between content and
advertisements.
To gather some first hand research, I gathered the opinions from a body of men’s
magazines readers, also concluding, that advertisements are now tipping over
the content to non-content advert ratio, in with a reader would expect to be in
magazines.
The way in which I will propose this will be with the use of ‘Advertorial’
design, creating a link between editorial, advertising and content.
Consequently, this creates an advertisement with content, which will be
appropriate for both the reader and the magazine.
To demonstrate my proposal, I will create a set of examples, using existing
non-content adverts. I will then recreate them in my proposed ‘Advertorial’
style and present my finding in various forms.
